  • Beginning of the end for our two party system

IS THERE ANY INTELLIGENT LIFE OUT THERE!!  HELLO!?! (booming echo) Guess not. I was all excited about voting for the first time now that I am of age, looking at my options I don't even WANT to vote. I am VERY disappointed with my options. I think this is all just screwed. The newspapers are Dems, the TV announcers are Dems. It is truly becoming a one party system. There used to be a law against giving your opinion if you were a newscaster. Everyone had to get equal time. Who among us is old enough to remember when Hillary was in college and belonged to the campus communist party? Now she and Bill have become a new entity: Billary (DUN DUN DUHNN!) capable of leaping beyond the law regarding Presidents not being able to serve more than 2 consecutive terms. Now each party has become fused into the Repdems or Publicrats or is it the left and right of the Shadow Government that we all know as Fema who has brought forth the fabulous clean up of Hurricane Katrina???

Is there any reason to believe that Billary's friendship with Dubai would not lead to our ports yet being controlled by them? Can the Clinton's actually turn the United States into their own private White Water? Would any intern be safe with Bill having little to occupy himself with? What about Obama whose middle name is Hussein and his grandparent's Muslim:  is he going to be Vice President? Weep, WEEP for America.

What is your political party inclination? Are you a Republican or a Demagogue? Are you a white-collar suit with a huge bonus, or a working-class lacky to them? Where is the room for the middle man? And what is up with the "new" voting method? At least with hanging "chads" the older voting machines left those pesky trails behind, but use the computerized machines and any high school hacker with a laptop could really play havoc with the rights of the voters. AND, have you noticed that you no longer get "just the news" but only opinions and commentary to swing public opinion to "their" views? If  you want to know what is really going on, why do you need to listen to Deutche Welle or the BBC World News? Huntly and Brinkley must be spinning in their graves and Walter Chronkite is roasting marshmallows over them in tears! Is anyone really paying attention? Since when do Hollywood actors with their great knowledge, understanding, and wealth of experience in virtually nothing but being paid liars have opinions of anything worth hearing? And what about Angelina Jolie going to Baghdad to do some humanitarian efforts there? She'll adopt a couple more bastard children over there and give them a home, while our children of America starve and run the streets. Oh, but I do hope little Habib and Muhammad get the royal treatment they deserve *rolls eyes*. Have I said too much? "What's the point?" you might ask? I'm not sure anymore... I just felt like ranting. What do I know anyway? I am just a 19 year old Libertarian who has never voted...

P.S. Did I mention that the Republican party sucks too?

Oh and... Far_Skies is back in the saddle! Lets get ready to RUMBLE!!! Expect to see me posting a lot more often .

  • We are screwed!

  • wadda ya mean yer # is disconnected???

  • "What about Obama whose middle name is Hussein and his grandparent's Muslim: "

Obama is a Christian.  Is it a bad thing that his grandfather was Muslim?  His mother was born in Kansas...

  • @john - Ok, so maybe I stepped over a line with that comment. *sheepish gesture*

  • *shrugs* I was on a rant... what can I say? LOL

  • can i ask, where do you get your news?

  • I was going to say what John did... :-S

I am not terribly thrilled with the choices... time will tell.

  • @john - I observe everything and then naturally form my own opinions... I guess I am just well rounded like that. :sswink:

  • actually she became HillBilly.....

  • @Far_Skies - Yes, definitely over the line. If you dislike him, dislike him on the issues.

  • It's just getting interesting.  For the first time in 40 years we have a true dialog in this country and we are finding out what people really want.  Clinton won't be nominated.  unlike the last 2 elections where all the demacrates could do was say "we are the opposite of those guys"  we are truely hearing what the democratic party wants to do, and it should scare the hell out of anyone that earns a paycheck.

Myself...I'm for less government and personal responsibility....hard to tell where that falls with the whole group.  your vote matters....keep the dialog going....

  • @squeakysoul - But isn't part of the beauty of America the fact that I can dislike anyone for any reason a deem fit? I mean, if the Dems can burn flags claiming "freedom of speech," can't I rag on someone regarding their family background... now I just think thats fair.

  • Having spent 6 years in England while in the service, and then coming back to the US, it made me see that our "two party system"we have is struggling and flawed...and that the UK has a well established dialogue in a multi-party system......however, I wish I had the answer other than another strong political party, but it starts with the people eh?  Well, maybe not so much now as it used to.....*sigh*

I am considering writing myself in as a candidate rather than throw my vote away on someone I don't believe in....

    Libertarians unite..... http://www.lp.org

  • @Far_Skies - Disliking someone because of their name/ethnicity is part of what is ugly about America, not what is beautiful.

  • Dude... you should totally check out that site that pctoolbin suggested... don't knock it till ya try it. :ssalien:

  • @squeakysoul - What is beautiful about America is freedom of choice and to think and
say whatever you please... I believe I have properly exercised my
rights as an American (without burning a flag) Isn't that amazing? I
have done way less harm with my comments than a lot of "Americans" have with their actions.

  • The two party system's been fucked for the longest time. There's not a third party that appeals to us Independents.

  • Hey, I am the only one that is allowed to make racist generalizations around here.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Oh, my apologies. *steps aside and hands you the mic* Is there anything you would like to perfect or add? I am all for interjection. LOL *wink*

  • @judas_is_rising - "this" part of "us" likes the Libertarian Party....... the "you" part of "us" may not like it tho....*shrugs*

  • I am abso-flippin-lutely surprised that the "Obama" comment got all the attention and not the "Habib and Muhammad" thing. If you are going to comment, do it evenly! :ssboohoo:

    LMFAO hahahah

  • Oh my! Where is popcorn?

  • @ pctoolbin:

I'm a Libertarian myself. I call myself Independent. Much easier that way to explain where I stand without people wondering what exactly a Libertarian believes.

  • @judas_is_rising - Understood.....however, I always try and give a nutshell comment like "We are what you dems and repubs aren't -- for less gov't and more personal responsibility" -- then I tell them if they have questions, go to lp.org (one of the shortest website urls you can give someone).....

That's just me tho......when I tell someone "Independant" this just tells them "a group of folks who can't make up their mind".....Libertarian gives them an "identity" to associate with.  But to each their own......

  • Billary looks kind of hot.

  • I have had people flip out, because i criticized Obama on his political positions and lack legislative accomplishments. Talking about is middle name is not likely to win you any friends.

Politically he is extremely left wing, but is so smooth talking that he gets away with claiming that he will end all political divisions and unite us all. He speaks in vague generalities making grand claims. Everyone seems to read him in their own way, seeing what they want to see. He really is sort of scary, they way his supporters suspend all critical thinking when they hear him. What the hell does the  "audacity of hope" really mean?

  • 1. Glad you will be posting more often. Yay!

    2. I share the disappointment with the choices for Prez. Seriously! I'm a registered Republican, but truthfully, I'll vote for whomever I think has the character and skill to lead us in the right direction. Unfortunally, right now, there isn't anyone. ~ L

  • @Far_Skies - Well you are right about freedom of speech. By the way, burning a flag right now is protected speech. I don't like flag burning any more than you do, by the way. But it goes to show that freedom to say whatever you please is definitely one of the benefits of living in this country. Of course it protects things as ugly as your comment about Obama as well as those ugly things you yourself do not like (like flag burning). it does cut both ways.

  • I read somewheres that this is really the battle of the Former Presidents:

McCain is to Reagan as Hillary is to Bill as Obama is to JFK.  Pretty interesting thought.

I'm getting lefter the older I get. It's odd because you can't get more Fundamentalist than me. I believe that Genesis through Revelation is the absolute Word for word, Word of God truth and the religious right "Evangelicals"  just give me the creeps.  I dunno.

I am 98% sure that whoever gets elected will be more of the same no matter what they say whilst campaigning.  But Obama seems the most refreshing different (even though it'll probably be more of the same). *shrugs*

    :sscrush:

  • Cat I :sslove: you, even if you're talking nonsense.

  • @squeakysoul - First of all... I didn't say ANYTHING ugly about Obama... I stated fact! Were his grandparent not Muslim? Is his middle name NOT Hussein? That is his middle name and those are his grandparents... Now, I could have said. "Damn Muslims need to be nuked" or "Death to Islam!" But I didn't... All I said was "What about Obama whose middle name is Hussein and his grandparent's Muslim: is he going to be Vice President?" Oh yes... and the "Weep, WEEP for America part" But that is just my opinion. You all are knuckleheads... *chuckles uncontrollably*

    :ssalien:

  • Ok... maybe not all of you, I give immunity to AliasUndercover, pctoolbin, greenray, empress8411, manilajones... ok... so I give immunity to everyone except for the obvious people in question. *opens one eye real big* I am watching you!

    LOL

  • @Far_Skies - You implied that because of his name and ethnic heritage he should not be President, he should not be president, which is an ugly sentiment indeed.

I grow weary of this fruitless convo. The original silly statement can stand for itself, it certainly doesn't need me to point out how silly it is.

  • I'm impressed... you stand your ground!  I don't think your comments were out of line at all.  Obama has kept the information about himself pretty well veiled.

  • Bilary, clever and so true

    :)

  • I've been saying this for awhile now. I think it's a good summary of our current system: Republicans are liars and the democrats lie to themselves. I can't just quite figure out which is more dangerous.

  • Anarchy for the u.k its coming sometime and maybe
I give a wrong time stop a trafic line
Your future dream is a shopping scheme cos i

    I wanna be anarchy !
It's getting to the point where we should just off ALL the politicians and start over again:sswink:

  • Since you never voted, maybe you should consider not ruining your perfect record. I voted for the first time in like 1988 and  I stopped voting after the 2000 election.   I regret(and there wern't many) every vote I ever cast.  I rarely voted for someone  or something but  usually I voted against someone or something.   Didn't matter  things have not gotten better they have gotten worse and they will continue to get worse and  this election will punctuate that truth.

  • I don't like any body.

    ...well that's not entirely true.

politically i have a difficult time selecting a leader. I believe most candidates have some respectable & admirable qualities as well as some loathsome character flaws. As with every choice we make in life there are always consequences.

The bottom line is to try and select leaders who best represent your opinions on the matters of governence, which primarily center around three major issues; Law, Arms, and Finances.

Governement needs to maintain its transportation infrastructure, defend it's citizens from both external as well as internal threats, provide for basic opportunities in agriculture, housing and education. It then becomes the role of the citizens to feed and cloth themselves, build the things they desire and set the standards of living for all its fellow peoples.

The govornment has taken on a series of additional roles which are to the benefit of its people, in developing avenues for research in medicine, engineering, and other like sciences. These avenues allow industry and private citizens to explore new technologies, albeit with controlls and regulations designed to protect the communities at large.

Finally the government must protect our natural resources, in order to maintain viable and productive use of these resources for countless generations.

These are the issues we should be concerned with, not weather Roger Clements had a cortisone injection in an injured ligament or that a candidate has 1/256% of Middle Eastern blood in his veins.

Ah but the press and the candidates all find that it is better press to argue about issues like abortion, and tax cuts.

  • Atta girl, keep the controversy flowing, we can use a little more open-ended discussion. Love G-maw

  • rotfl watching my bud stir the pot. I love that about you. You are not afraid to step right up and tell everyone exactly how you feel

  • Hi cat... tell your Mom I miss her!
