A Pirate Princess: Part 5Caliana had wonderful dreams that night sleeping beside O'Malley. She dreamed that they were both sailing together through life, treasure ran like a river at their feet, and their names were known by all. When she awoke she smiled, yesterday was wonderful. She hoped, that like the day before, today would be just as splendid. With her eyes still heavy and full of sleep, she turned to embrace him. Her hand was met by a cold sheet. With her eyes still closed she blindly felt about... but there was no one there. Her eyes popped open with a start. O'Malley was gone. She quickly, but quietly, got out of bed. she was hoping that she would find him in the next room sitting in his chair. She tiptoed through the hall and peeked her head around the corner... nothing. She searched every room but couldn't find him. As she got closer to the kitchen she could smell lilac, She breathed a sigh of relief. There was freshly picked lilac on the table, that meant that O'Malley was out for a stroll and would be back shortly. As she drew closer to get a better smell of the wonderfully fragrant flowers, she noticed that the vase was sitting on something that appeared to be a letter. It was addressed to her:
My dear bonny darlin',
Forgive me for not a'wakin' ya, an forgive me for not sayin' g'bye. I am not too good at doin' so. There are things in my life right now that would prevent me from bein' a good man to ya. That bein' said, ya also deserve better than jus "good." Lassie, ya are a rare find, truly ya are. I don't deserve ya. I want ya ta know that I luv ya, an not jus a wee bit either. You have shown me more luv than even my own muther has, and I will cherish that luv forever. Thank ya for the bottle of whiskey by the wee, I left it on the kitchen table. Figured ya might be needin' it more than I.That was O'Malley alright, always trying to be considerate.
Anywee, lassie, I'm sorry ta do ya like this. I don't mean ta hurt ya, I just can't be anyone's beau right now. Please find it in your heart ta forgive an old fool. G'bye my bonny princess, an fare thee well.
Eternally yours,
Sean Patrick O'Malley
P.S. Before ya go, lock up and put the spare key back under the rum barrel. She just sat there, too heartbroken to even cry. The truth was she didn't know if she could forgive O'Malley. Now she knew the reason, however, why he only kissed her and left it like that. It was a goodbye. She didn't know what she was going to do now, or where she was going to go. She decided that she would stay there another night and get her ship prepared to sail. She needed supplies. She knew that O'Malley had a cellar where he kept all of his ships sailing requirements, she thought that she might take a peek. After all, when she first arrived, he did tell her to make herself at home.
Staring at the cellar doors, she frowned. They were locked. She didn't want to have to break in... but she didn't mind. She had some gunpowder on her, and flint was common in those parts. She carefully poured the gunpowder into the lock and hit the flint a couple times. Sure enough (((BANG))) the gunpowder ignited and blew the locking mechanism. It was an old trick she learned from one of her mothers swashbuckling crew members, Miguel. He was always very knowledgable concerning the tricks of the trade. She took the lock off of the cellar doors and opened them. He hadn't left much down there, it looked like he had taken the majority of his supplies with him when he left. Even so, there was still enough to get her through her next voyage. She loaded her ship full of supplies, made a few minor repairs, and then decided to turn in for the night. She bathed and washed her clothes, she wanted to feel fresh when she shoved off in the morning. She didn't know where she was going, but she had all night to consider it.
She arose before dawn and hoisted anchor. The day before she had caught wind that Cynara Jane, her mother (the pirate queen they called her,) was rounding up some new crew members on a little island north of Bermuda. Her mother was a legend in her spare time. She had fended off sea monster, pulled off some of the biggest burglaries, battled against hundreds of men single handedly (and won.) She did this all with nothing but her will, her wit, a sword and a pistol. Caliana was thinking about dropping by to see what dear ol' mom was up to this time, an to see if she could join in on the fun if there was any fun to be had.
