  • Happy Times…

I while back I had a few pet rats. Lezlie (a brown rat) Stitch (a hooded rat) and Felix, my favorite. Felix was black with white tummy and a white blaze on his face and three white socks. I named him Felix because Felix means “happy” and thats what he was… one happy rat. He was the mellower one of the three and was content sitting peacefully on my shoulder. Believe it or not, every rat has a different personality like dogs do. Lezlie was the curious one that got into everything. Stitch was indifferent about the world. And Felix seemed to have the personality of an old monk. He was patient, loving, wise…  and he was happy. *smiles*

I miss Felix and I miss my rat owner days. I have been thinking about adopting another rat… I miss them. Despite what a lot of people think, rats are very clean creatures and quite gentle. They are good with kids and become a member of the family quicker than you might expect. Felix was my pal, we went everywhere together… wherever we could anyway. When I had my rats I was the talk of the neighborhood, I was then known as “the lady with the pet rats” it was fun and I had a blast… so did they. My rats were some of my favorite pets I have ever cared for, definitely in my top three. And again very soon I shall have this joy again.

I got almost as much joy from having rats as I did raising rabbits with my grandma and grandpa. Both were very fun experiences with a lot of laughs and smiles.

    What was your favorite pet?

  • He looks pretty cool.  I would like to have one, but spouse would freak if I brought one home.

  • i’ve only had fish and I don’t like fish very much.

  • Um…. you better go check out lorilily’s site…

  • ^^ I am going to nuke that damn cat in the microwave… and then poke it to make sure it’s dead :pokey:… and then just in case > :beatin:

Bishop better watch out for my mad ninja skills :nunchuck:

  • wow…i think i will pass on that type of pet…. but i guess someone has to love them! giggles….

  • Alas, I was not raised by ‘pet’ people. I like hearing about Felix, Stitch and Lezlie. Sounds fun.

  • Surprisingly, these creatures were quite benign. Watching them in their exercise balls was a little freaky. They were very nice, clean pets. The kids loved them. I only asked one thing. Do not put them on me!!!! Love you, whatever makes you happy, tickles me to pieces. :celebrate: (You need more emoticons.)

  • Rats have gotten a Bad reputation! They are awesome pets, I had one in the past and loved it. My favourite pet(s) was most definitely my golden retrievers, Diamond and Dauson. Diamond, sadly, died of a brain tumor about a year ago and as for Dauson, when my dad and his long-term girlfriend split up, she kept the dog but ended up giving him away – Dauson is now a police dog. Have a great weekend.

    Yours Truly,
    Steffanie

  • Awwwwwwwwwwwww What a cute little bugger! I can’t have a rat as a pet. I have a terrier and three cats. I don’t think the other two dogs would give a damn, but my terrier would figure out how to get to the rat.

How long do pet rats live?

  • Your rats were very cute…  My favorite pets hands down are my dogs…  I loved all my horses, but I never considered them a pet…

  • aaaaaawwwwwwwwww…

  • The dog, I like our little doggie.

And the cat of my youth, my brother and I learned it how to fly, but that’s another story.

  •   Two cats I had in Biloxi back in 1990, Bodacious-Bo, and PePe’ (because PePe’ Le Pew was on when I brought it home). Both were siamese mixes and and interesting personalities and Bo like to play fetch

  • My fav pet is old man Kiki who adopted me 11 years ago- vet thinks he could be 18 years old. But I like lots of kinds of animals. Just not spiders. :spider:

And if you want to give my state to bluemarsupial that’s fine with me. I’m leaving Idaho in a couple weeks anyways.

  • Our puppy – after he gets poddy trained.

  • Bruno, the famous “Bavarian Wolf,” and Sam, the talking dog. I would say my horse, Dusty, but she was more like a really expensive, spoiled family member.

  • My daughter raised several rats… you are correct, they tend to be quite gentle when not threatened (we never had any kind of negative experience, ever) and, as long as they are in good health, will maintain themselves to maticulous levels of personal cleanliness. All around good pets. I really only had two problems with them, one of which is that they require a cage (House guests don’t appreciate free roaming rats, despite the fact that a family dog would most certainly be more of a threat to them) and that they really don’t live anywheres near long enough. One gets attached to them… unlike fish, they are warm, fuzzy and affectionate things that would prefer your company over their own…. really very social critters.

I was very pleasantly surprised to have had them around the house.

  • We had a dg called ‘Bhang’, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, he was great.

A girlfriend had a pet rat, it lived in the sofa which made me nervous. I always tucked my trousers in my socks when sitting on it. Better safe than sorry.:look-around:

  • Master, er mistress… the cat Bishop has taken over another site! Swift action is needed!

  • Favorite pet????? Kats…….OK collie……………….great pics on Thursday….hope your doing well…..BearHugs

  • You really need to shop around for an exotic pet store and pick up a naked cave rat. They are SO cute. Their bodies are just the same size and shape as regular rats, but they are plain pink with a very, VERY fine, pale fur. Unless you look close, the really do look and feel naked. And what is REALLY funny… hold one in your hand and close your eyes and tell me what it feels like. [evil grin]

  • I was curiously reminded of the movie ‘Rat Race’.

  • :help::help::help: “Bishop” has taken over Spazmom40′s site, and her cat “Popoki” has taken over donkey_guy_10′s site… you had better act fast or your world dominion plans will  be lain by the wayside. :help::help::help:

    HURRY!!!!!

  • Great post. Krypto the Wonder Dog. He was my childhood best friend. He was a German Shorthair who slept under the covers with me every night. He passed away fifteen years ago and he still visits me in my dreams every week. I still miss him terribly. People said he was not my dog I was his boy. Read Where the Red Fern Grows and multiply our friendship a thousand fold. Once he caught a trout and laid it at my barefeet.  :brokenheart:

  • Felix looks like he was one with it rat!! My favorite pets have always been the many different cats I’ve had so far-so cute and lovable! Have a great week!

  • We had a pet rat named Snowball, she was all white and would sit up for peanuts and run in her wheel. Great pet, far better than any hamster or gerbil. I’d get another in a heartbeat, except the cats might eat it. Have a wonderful day! – Bek

  • I like rats, with prumes
