  • Close Call…

PanicButton My eyes opened as a sat straight up in my bed, my first thought was “Oh God… please don’t let it be too late!” I peered at the alarm clock that read 9:30am… I had a half an hour to shower, get dressed, do my hair and arrive at work 20 minutes away on time. I was sure that I was screwed. I leapt and sprinted out of bed… went I say “leapt and sprinted” I mean stood up from a completely horizontal position and was half way across the room before my feet touched the ground. I ran down the hallway as fast and agile as a gazelle (keep in mind I mean a three legged retarded gazelle that has been startled by a hungry lion) and stumbled down the stairs. I ran into my moms room and with a frightful overtone of panic yelled “MOM!! We have a problem!! It’s 9:30 and I have to be at work at 10:00!!!” I believe at that point my mother said something like “Oh F#%K! Get moving… NOW!”

I hopped in the shower… more like jumped in full speed and didn’t even let the water warm up *brrrr* I have never taken a 2 minute shower before… but I did. All I had time to do was wash my hair… and I didn’t even have time to condition it  *sigh* So anyway… I dried my hair, which felt like it took an eternity!! I wiggled into my pants… which was quite a task considering that I hadn’t fully dried off. Grabbed my shoes, hopped in them on the way out… and we were off!

In the car now… struggling to get my makeup in order, I managed to do my makeup (quite well might I add ) We were speeding down the highway… when I say speeding I mean going 70 in a 55 zone. “ wow, that’s fast!” you might say… we weren’t sure if it was fast enough! Along the way we flew by a State Highway Patrolman like a bat out of hell… and he never took notice. Yeah… we were going that fast, stealth mode baby! Well anyway, we made a 20 minute drive in 10 minutes. I arrived to my first day of work on time with minutes to spare. It was quite a morning… and a memory I will retell to my grandchildren someday. Though for giggles I may embellish a bit, maybe add an alien abduction in the middle and some ninjas at the end. But hell… it’ll be a good story! *wink*

Later I will tell you about my first day at work and how it went… stay tuned.

Your first day at your first job… what was it like?

  • The power of the mind… and what a really cool mom who can drive like a bat out of hell can do..

I can’t wait to hear about your first day at work… but I guess we have to wait until your second day at work is over..

Maybe tomorrow you can slow down a bit… I know that whenever I arrived at work in a rush, the feeling of being in a rush lasted all day…

    Dance On with money honey!!

  • …welcome to the workforce…

  • hope the rest of the day went smoother! Welcome to the workforce! i can’t wait to hear all about it….

My first day at work? Heck i can’t remember what i did yesterday and now you want me to remember what happened in the last century? lol….

  • My first day at work – was pretty uneventful. However I do have a friend who managed to get himself locked in the gents loo’s within ten minutes of being in the office - they had to call the fire brigade to get him out. Now obviously the fire brigade wanted to simply hack the door down – but the office manager was having none of it. As a result the firemen removed the false ceiling and winched him up and out, over the door! Now there is one for the grandkids!

  • You can tell the grandchildren that story as it is, you told it in a very funny way.

What do you have with alarm clocks? That’s the second time in a week. LOL.

  • A memorable first day – the first of many memorable work days I am sure.  Welcome to the world of FICA.

  • No story I tell my children would be complete without aliens & ninjas :bravo:  Glad you made it in OK.  I look forward to hearing about how it went.  Keep up the good work :goodjob:

  • All will be fine next time remember to set the alarm :sunshine: can’t wait to hear how well your day went

  • I actually called in sick on my first day at my first job. True! I knew the job was going to suck before I started it but I needed some cash and, well thats what people do. So I called in sick. Still managed to work that dead end job for 3 months or so before dropping it like a bad habit. Hope your having a good hump day today! – Bek

I have done that more than a few times, sorry to say!

  • sounds familler… I don’t count my highschool job at baskin robbins a real job… since I made minimum wadge and got to take home all the ice cream I could… :dancingcow: but my first job out of highschool was …a bank teller!!! I hated it… I worked there for a year, yeah I can’t believe it… while I don’t remember my first day… I do remember that my supervisor HATED me, and I don’t know why… the last straw was when she told me that my hair was too curly and I needed to do something about it… …thou I did have the HOTTEST boss, he was the vice president of loans, and he had these ocean blue eyes and salt n pepper hair & he rode a motorcycle to work… wearing his armani suit… very sexy… (maybe that’s why I stuck it out so long… :wink-wink:)

  • :celebrate: Obviously you got the job then! Well done getting there, being late on the first day is not good. My reading’s been a bit sporadic lately.

I don’t recall anything much about my first day at work…training I think. I was under a lady called Vera.
